About Angelman Syndrome

Angelman Syndrome Parental Testing

Once the genotype is determined, parental testing is commonly offered. Parental testing is typically performed to determine the chances to have future children with AS or to see if other family members, like siblings, may have an increased chance to have a child with AS. Which testing is offered to parents depends on the genotype and the testing that was performed to confirm the diagnosis.

The table below shows some examples of testing that may be offered to parents after the genotype is determined. Please note that the best test for parents can vary and not all tests are available in all locations.  It is important to talk to your loved one’s geneticist or genetic counselor to determine which testing would be best in your family.
