It’s an exciting time in Angelman syndrome research, with multiple Phase 3 clinical trials likely to start over the next year. Phase 3 clinical trials are typically larger, which means more AS families may be eligible to participate in clinical trials. But for many families, this opportunity comes with questions—how do I find out about a clinical trial? What happens during a clinical trial? How do I enroll my loved one in a trial if I’m interested? What does phase 3 even mean?
We heard your questions, and in collaboration with the Angelman Syndrome Foundation (ASF), developed the Clinical Trials 101 webinar. Learn about clinical trial basics, as FAST’s Ryan Fischer and ASF’s Amanda Moore ask genetic counselors Niki Armstrong and Katie Garbarini questions about clinical trials. Clinical trials are complex and different from standard medical care. Understanding terminology and how clinical trials work is key for families to make an informed decision for their loved one, and ultimately to advance potential treatments in AS.
