FAST LATAM Brings Families and Research Together in Mexico City

FAST LATAM 2026 Conference

Two incredible days at the second FAST LATAM Conference in Mexico City 🇲🇽    Bringing together more than 267 people in person and nearly 496 participants virtually, the conference was a powerful reflection of what can happen when a community comes together with shared purpose, determination, and hope.

The program featured the latest updates in Angelman syndrome research and clinical trials alongside practical discussions focused on daily care, education, and supporting loved ones living with Angelman syndrome. Speakers from across LATAM and the United States contributed their expertise, including FAST’s Jennifer Panagoulias and Dr. Allyson Berent.    A huge congratulations to the entire FAST LATAM board for building something so meaningful for families across the region. Special thanks to Cynthia Katz for organizing and hosting the conference in Mexico City, and to Stephanie Azout Chaki and Melina Klurfan for their leadership, vision, and persistence in growing this movement.

Over the past few years, the LATAM Angelman syndrome community has continued to grow in meaningful ways. Families are building stronger connections with one another, increasing awareness across the region, strengthening relationships with clinicians and researchers, and helping push progress forward for individuals living with Angelman syndrome.    As Dr. Hérnan Armartino perfectly said, the women of the FAST LATAM board are like woodpeckers: they keep knocking until they get your attention. That persistence is creating real momentum and making a lasting difference.
