International Angelman Day 2024 Round-Up

This year’s International Angelman Day was filled with heartfelt moments where communities around the world showcased their support for loved ones living with Angelman syndrome in their lives. We are so proud of this community for your efforts to bring awareness, educate, and raise funds for AS organizations around the world.

Check out the efforts from around the world that helped highlight the purpose of this special day.

Raise Angelman syndrome awareness worldwide:

  • Over 15 countries and several cities “lit up in blue” on Feb 15 through landmarks and residential homes.

  • Classrooms, businesses, and communities around the globe went “blue” for the loved one in their community who lives with Angelman syndrome through t-shirts, art, lights, and snacks!

  • Spotlights in newspapers and on TV such as the story of siblings John and Violet from North Carolina, and Jax from Upstate New York.

Mobilize people to action & encourage fundraising for the AS organization in their country:

  • More than 70 families gathered together at the Alton Towers in the UK to celebrate IAD 2024 together.

  • FAST Athlete, Dan Growden, raised $2,956 CAD, riding on a bike for 15 hours straight to bring awareness to Angelman syndrome in honor of his daughter, Sawyer.

  • The FAST community alone raised over $14,000 to help fund our research agenda towards a potential therapeutic.

Promote research and educational resources in the organization’s own country:

  • FAST, Angelman Syndrome Foundation, and AS organizations around the world posted educational insights about Angelman syndrome reaching thousands of people on social media.

Remember those people with Angelman syndrome who are no longer with us:

  • So many wonderful tributes in memory of all those who lived with Angelman syndrome who are no longer with us such as this story in memory of Blair Snelgar by ABC Sunshine Coast in Australia.
