CAN Community Spotlight: Joelene

Joelene Wand, mother of Jude, who was diagnosed with Angelman syndrome last year, has quickly become an active member of the Angelman syndrome community in her home country of Australia, and beyond.

Jude was diagnosed at age 16 months in April 2023 and since then, Joelene has joined the Angelman Syndrome Association of Australia (ASAA) as the NSW State Representative and began writing for the Angelman Syndrome News, while also adjusting to her new journey as an Angelman syndrome caregiver.

She, along with her husband Tom, attended their first FAST Global Science Summit & Gala last November in Orlando.

Upon return, Joelene wrote her latest column about her experience: FAST’s Global Science Summit reminded us of the power of hope

Thank you, Joelene and Tom, for your willingness to get involved to support the Angelman syndrome community’s progress towards a meaningful therapeutic!
