We are thrilled to share the resounding success of the inaugural Angelman Syndrome Congress in Bogotá, Colombia, organized by FAST Latam. This historic event marks a significant step forward for the Angelman syndrome community in Latin America, where connections were made, knowledge shared, and hope reignited.
With over 180 attendees present in Bogotá and over 290 participants joining virtually from more than 30 countries, the Congress created a powerful platform for families, caregivers, researchers, and medical professionals to come together in advancing the understanding and treatment of Angelman Syndrome. The turnout, both in-person and online, speaks volumes about the determination and strength of the Latin American AS community.
It was a special honor for Allyson Berent (Chief Scientific Officer) Ellen Koekoeckx (Global Advisor), Amelia Beatty and Roy Azout (Board of Directors), to witness this momentous event firsthand. Their presence highlighted the global support for this cause, underscoring the incredible impact that FAST Latam has had in building a robust network in the region.
We are immensely proud of FAST Latam for their relentless dedication and hard work. The Congress not only amplified awareness but also brought vital resources to families who previously had limited access to AS-related information and support.
To everyone who attended, supported, and worked behind the scenes to make this Congress a reality—thank you. And a special thanks to Stephanie Azout, who is leading the amazing FAST Latam team and who made this first Congress a reality. Your contributions are shaping a brighter future for those living with Angelman syndrome in Latin America and beyond.
Together, we are stronger.
