What is Angelman syndrome?
Angelman syndrome is a rare neurogenetic disorder that affects the nervous system and causes developmental delays, challenges with movement and balance, and significant difficulties with speech and communication. It is caused by a loss of function of the UBE3A gene in the brain.
While individuals living with Angelman syndrome share certain characteristics, each person is unique, with their own abilities, personalities, and needs.
Is there a cure for Angelman syndrome?
There is currently no cure for Angelman syndrome, but significant progress is being made toward developing treatments. Multiple therapeutic approaches are in development, with several being evaluated in clinical trials.
FAST is helping drive that progress by funding promising research, supporting scientific collaboration, and building the resources needed to move potential treatments forward.
While there is still much to learn, families have more reasons than ever to follow the science and stay informed about what’s ahead.
